Dr Yang Hu is currently a Senior Lecturer in Finance at the University of Waikato's Management School. Dr Hu joined the School of Accounting, Finance, and Economics in June 2019 after completing his PhD degree.

His research interests lie primarily in the fields of financial bubbles, green/sustainable finance, energy finance, cryptocurrencies, and financial technology (fintech).

He received the WMS Award for the Outstanding Early Career Researcher in 2020.

He has published in a wide range of internationally recognised journals, including The British Accounting Review, Economics Letters, Economic Modelling, Energy Economics, European Journal of Finance, International Review of Economics & Finance, International Review of Financial Analysis, Journal of International Money and Finance, Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money, Journal of Financial Stability, Journal of Economic Surveys, among others. He is a co-author of the "evmix" package in R. His paper outlining this package in more detail is published in Journal of Statistical Software. 

Dr Hu is currently supervising PhD students. Dr Hu has served as both internal and external examiners for doctoral theses at universities in Australia and New Zealand. 

Dr Hu has been successful in securing multiple external funding, including grants from the National Social Science Fund of China (NSSFC).
