BIO

Steve joined the University of Waikato in 1998 after completing his Ph.D. in strategy and governance at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Steve currently researches on family business, sustainability and growth within the broader area of strategy. Steve has projects underway exploring family business in New Zealand, the impact on performance and the socio-emotional wealth applications. Recent work has looked at the approach of family businesses to sustainability. Much of Steve's work has been case driven and Steve has written over fifty case studies on New Zealand companies since joining Waikato - many of which have featured in the WMS Case Competition and other case competitions.

Steve teaches strategy across all levels of the university - undergraduate and graduate programs - primarily via the case teaching method utilising many of his cases. In addition Steve is the Academic Director of Work-Integrated Learning for Waikato Management School principally overseeing student internships and our processes.
