Sharleen's journey in the realm of education and leadership spans over 25 years, marked by a transition from a hands-on classroom role to influential positions within the Ministry of Education. As a former Student Achievement Practitioner and Waikato PLD Lead at the Ministry's regional office, she gained profound insights into the Ministry's systems and processes, especially in Regionally Allocated PLD. Her secondment to the Regional Change Plan NCEA team further enriched her experience, allowing her to support schools through pivotal NCEA changes and contribute a vital sector voice.

In 2022, Sharleen enhanced her skill set by becoming a certified Professional Coach in Transformative Coaching. Her governance experience is equally extensive, currently serving as the Deputy Chair on Sport Waikato, a trustee of Women in Rugby Aotearoa, Bridge Housing, and having served on the boards of K’aute Pasifika and Chiefs Rugby.

A staunch advocate for equity and social justice in education, Sharleen is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and culturally responsive curriculum. She believes in the transformative power of education to provide equal opportunities for all ākonga. Residing in Hamilton with her family, Sharleen balances her professional commitments with personal interests in family, walking her dog, and reading.

Sharleen has recently embarked on doctoral studies in Pasifika leadership, further deepening her commitment to understanding and enhancing leadership dynamics within Pasifika communities. This academic pursuit complements her practical experience and aligns with her dedication to leadership development and cultural responsiveness in education.

Unique in its approach, Te Whai Toi Tangata offers micro-credentials leading to post-graduate qualifications and is adept in all Ministry of Education PLD Priorities. The team's expertise extends to supporting Hybrid learning, curriculum refresh, and NCEA changes, including mana ōrite mō te mātauranga Māori, numeracy, and literacy.
