I am a Teaching Fellow in the Division of Health, School of Sport and Human Movement. Reflecting my long-term involvement in Olympic Weightlifting as an athlete, coach, and a former member of international weightlifting media, my research is focused on physical strength and power (relations). Although I primarily explore the experiences of strength sport athletes, I am particularly interested in the intertwining of sex and gender in women athletes' experiences and performances. Topics previously researched include the impact of sport-specific and dominant discourses on athlete wellbeing and the media coverage of transgender athletes. My most recent research seeks to construct a transdisciplinary dialogue between exercise science and sociocultural scholarship by analysing how knowledges of sex, gender, and athleticism affect female Olympic Weightlifters' bodily practices and capacity for maximal strength. I am a two-time recipient of the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport’s Barbara Brown Outstanding Student Paper Award, and a 2025 recipient of the International Olympic Committee’s PhD Students and Early Career Academics Research Grant Programme.
