BIO
Marrin Haggie (Ngaati Patu-poo, Waikato, Te Atihaunui-a-papa-rangi, Ngaati Raukawa, Ngaati Tuwharetoa) is Associate Dean in the Division of Health and Senior Lecturer in the School of Equity and Innovation. He has taught at the University of Waikato since 2025.
Marrin has completed a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science (with Distinction), and Master of Science (Sport and Exercise Science, with Distinction) from the Waikato Institute of Technology, and a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Waikato.
Marrins doctoral study used iwi specific Rangahau Kaupapa Māori principles to build a bespoke hoistic health framework for his people of Waikato. The framework utilises Waikato kōrero, mātauranga, principles, praxes, social constructs, and taiao as a vehicle to achieve and maintain waiora.
Marrin combines his passions of the Sport and Exercise Sciences and Māori and Indigenous Health and Wellbeing employing kaupapa Māori principles in teaching and research.
