BIO
Overview: Kim Hebert-Losier is an Associate Professor in Applied Biomechanics (clinical and sport) within the School of Sport and Human Movement at the University of Waikato with over 140 peer-reviewed publications. Her research and academic leadership span physiotherapy and sports biomechanics. She currently serve as an Associate Editor for the Sports Biomechanics journal, a Professional Member for the International Society of Biomechanics in Sport, and speaker and researcher with The Running Clinic. Kim Hebert-Losier is the Lead Biomechanics researcher at the Adams Centre for High Performance and Senior Academic for the Division of Health looking after the interest of the Division in the Bay of Plenty area or New Zealand.
Kim Hebert-Losier is the developer of the Calf Raise app (downloaded >20,000 times internationally), which is used to monitor strength-endurance of the calf muscles. She is the recipient of the 2024 Qualisys Motion Capture Ambassador Award, and leader of the New Zealand National Biomechanics Day.
Biomechanics laboratory: Since 2016, Kim Hebert-Losier has led the Biomechanics Laboratory at the Adams Centre for High Performance, which supports both clinical and sport research. The lab features state-of-the-art technology including:
- 8-camera Qualisys 3D Motion Capture System
- Delsys wireless EMG and IMU system
- Kistler Force Plates (x2)
- Plantar Pressure Mat
- 15-m Optojump system
- Gymaware linear position transducers
- Radar guns, timing lights
- Vicon Trident IMUs (x5)
... and more enabling high-fidelity analysis of human movement.
MSc and PhD candidates: Kim Hebert-Losier is currently accepting MSc/PhD inquiries from candidates interested in running research, footwear studies, barefootedness, triceps surae muscles, Achilles tendon, and screening for risk of lower-limb injuries in sport.
Horizon Europe: Kim Hebert-Losier is open to collaborate on Horizon Europe and other international grants, contributing her experitise in physiotherapy, biomechanics, gait, and musculoskeletal lower-extremity health, assessment, and biomechanics.
