Overview: I am an Associate Professor in Applied Biomechanics (clinical and sport) with over 125 peer-reviewed publications. My research and academic leadership span physiotherapy and sports biomechanics. I currently serve as an Associate Editor for the Sports Biomechanics journal and a Professional Member for the International Society of Biomechanics in Sport. I am the Lead Biomechanics researcher at the University of Waikato Adams Centre for High Performance and Senior Academic for the Division of Health looking after the interest of our Division in the Bay of Plenty area or New Zealand.
Biomechanics Laboratory: Since 2016, I have led the Biomechanics Laboratory at the Adams Centre for High Performance, which supports both clinical and sport research. The lab features state-of-the-art technology including:
- 8-camera Qualisys 3D Motion Capture System
- Delsys wireless EMG and IMU system
- Kistler Force Plates (x2)
- Plantar Pressure Mat
- 15-m Optojump system
- Gymaware linear position transducers
- Radar guns, timing lights
- Vicon Trident IMUs (x5)
... and more enabling high-fidelity analysis of human movement.
About me: I capture (biomechanics) where it matters...and love to run. I am the developer of the Calf Raise app to monitor strength-endurance of the calf muscles, an expert Qualisys user, leader of the New Zealand National Biomechanics Day, and speaker for The Running Clinic.
MSc and PhD candidates: I am currently accepting MSc/PhD inquiries from candidates interested in running research, footwear studies, barefootedness, triceps surae muscles, Achilles tendon, ACL and jump-landing mechanics, and screening for risk of injuries in sport.
