My research coalesces around gender and sexuality. Subsequent to my PhD research, I published papers relating to the experiences of Samoan fa'afāfine, and I authored the entry on Gender Diversity in Te Ara: The Encyclopedia of New Zealand. More recently I have been involved in work using the data from the Counting Ourselves project, which examines the health of trans and non-binary populations in Aotearoa.
Other research outputs relate to parenting, with a focus on infant feeding and the ways in which parenting is constructed as a gendered activity. More recently, I have been working on articles examining public responses to Jacinda Ardern's pregnancy as a means of ascertaining how being a woman - and particularly a pregnant woman/mother - affects people's perceptions of an individual's ability to lead a country.
I have published work relating to homosexuality in Aotearoa, and sex work in Aotearoa. Sexuality, and in particular marginalised sexual (and gender) identities, continues to be a central focus of my research interests.
