BIO

I focus on questions and problems about the functioning of ecosystems involving water, carbon and greenhouse gases. I work with instrument systems for measuring fluxes of water and trace gases between ecosystems and the atmosphere in order to understand the impacts of environmental changes on wetlands; and how land management practices affect soil carbon stocks and emissions of GHGs within agricultural systems. I have a particular interest in Aotearoa-New Zealand's very special peatlands - amazing pristine wetland ecosystems in their natural state, and highly problematic long-term sources of GHG emissions once they have been drained.
