BIO

Dr Cherie Lacey is a filmmaker, writer, and researcher working across nonfiction film, creative nonfiction, and autotheory. Her work explores the limits of representation, particularly how lived experience—of addiction, affect, and social life—can be expressed through hybrid and first-person forms. She is especially interested in docu-memoir, video essays, and other experimental modes that blur the boundaries between scholarship and storytelling.

Cherie’s research sits at the intersection of media, creative technologies, and public health, examining how contemporary media systems shape behaviour, emotion, and everyday life. Alongside her academic publications on digital cultures, human–technology interaction, and “dark patterns,” she develops creative works that engage directly with public audiences.
