BIO

Bronwyn Isaacs specialises in the anthropology of labour, visual media, and national identity, with a geographic focus on the Asia-Pacific region. Her research explores how visual culture and media industries intersect with broader global concerns—including health inequalities, food and climate sustainability, censorship, digital labour, advertising, and the erosion of democratic freedoms.

Bronwyn’s work has contributed to debates on national identity, AI ethics, and visual politics. She has conducted fieldwork in Thailand, Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

Her current research focuses on the cultural politics of artificial intelligence (AI). This includes examining how film and content creators in Aotearoa navigate the impacts of generative AI on creative labour, and how shifting notions of authenticity and misinformation are shaping public trust in electoral and media environments. Across her work, Bronwyn continues to investigate how media markets, visual aesthetics, and power operate together in shaping contemporary life.
