RESEARCH INTERESTS

Organic Synthesis and Medicinal Chemistry

  • Synthesis of potentially bioactive compounds isolated from natural sources, targeting efficient and flexible routes that support analogue studies and future drug discovery efforts.
  • Discovery and development of antibacterial compounds for treatment of diseases with unmet needs (e.g. Gonorrhoea).
  • Discovery and development of inhibitors for enzymes involved in DNA repair and replication including DNA Protein Kinase (DNA-PK), Poly(ADP-ribose) Polymerase (PARP) and human and bacterial Ligases.
  • Exploration of novel mechanisms for drugging tumours
  • Development of novel prodrug activation mechanisms to facilitate more selective targeting of disease.
  • Use of novel techniques like flow chemistry for synthesis of prodrugs, inhibitors and useful intermediate compounds.
