BIO

Amanda Turnbull is a Senior Lecturer in Law at Te Piringa Faculty of Law, School of Law, Politics and Philosophy, and Undergraduate Convenor (Law). She is also a Research Associate with Te Puna Haumaru Centre for Security & Crime Science (Waikato) and a Fellow of the European Law Institute. Before joining Waikato, Amanda was a Schulich Fellow at the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University (Halifax). She previously taught law and ethics at Trinity College (University of Toronto) and philosophy at York University (Toronto). Amanda is also a former Assistant Dean/Doyenne adjointe of the Juris Doctor Program at the University of Ottawa.

 

Amanda's research interests include law and technology (cyber law), transnational law, law of the sea, blue economy, contract law, the philosophy of law and legal theory. Her latest research investigates how increasingly sophisticated AI technologies facilitate novel forms of harm, specifically technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV) and also in the context of emerging marine technologies.

 

Amanda is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto (PhD), Carleton University in Ottawa (MA) and the University of Ottawa (BA). She also holds an ARCT (Royal Conservatory of Toronto, Flute Performance) and a Dip AA (Mohawk College, honours music).
